Skyline Dr― Rochester ―

Project designed for homeowner, and we were asked to construct this backyard with the hopes of using a local stone. We researched quarries and stone used in the area and found some new traditional stone for the homeowners mid-century home in a traditional area of Rochester. The cream colored stone came from a local MN quarry and was used in the wall and patio.

The walls are a traditional drystone wall, laid in a linear pattern, with huge 4-6” thick capstones that are over 4' long and 14" wide. Although we use saws and other power equipment, there are lots of chisel and hammer work that is done to achieve the finish our clients want.

The patio, although a classic design, is actually an enlarged pattern style, using 2.25” thick patio stones that are anywhere from 2x2 to 4x6 ft pieces. The use of large pieces put the oversized patio in perspective.
